Conversion lift on upsell vs post-purchase flow
Upsell at checkout outperformed their post-purchase upsell.
DTC merchant testing the at-checkout upsell flow against their previous post-purchase upsell. Saw substantial conversion lift in week one without changing any other variable.
What wasn't working.
Post-purchase upsell underperforming
shinie was running a post-purchase upsell flow — after checkout completion, customers were shown a one-click upsell offer. Conversion on these post-purchase offers was 3-5%, in line with industry averages but underwhelming for the team. They suspected the timing (after commitment) was wrong.
What we shipped.
At-checkout upsell with Coupon List
We installed the Checkout Upsell block configured with tag-based recommendations, paired with the Available Coupons block surfacing relevant discount codes inline. The upsell appeared during the checkout flow, before the pay button, giving customers the option to add to cart in one tap.
What changed.
Setup completed without dev help
Average order value lifted on upsell-tagged orders
Price-to-value ratio confirmed by team
Does what it promises. Setup was straightforward, didn't need to mess around with code. The upsell flow at checkout actually converts way better than what we had before. Support replied within a day. Solid app for the price.
Three more deep-dives.
What shinie actually ran.
