Best for: Merchants who need banners, custom fields and a few validations at no cost.

Strengths

  • Free and maintained by Shopify, so it is the safest long-term bet for the basics
  • Custom fields saved to order metafields, text and image blocks, buttons and banners
  • Reorder payment and delivery methods, address-format validation functions
  • Documented in the Shopify Help Center like a native feature

Limits

  • No trust-badge, review, upsell, free-shipping bar or shipping-protection blocks
  • No cart-based rules engine beyond the built-in functions
  • Search for the name and you land in Shopify's help docs, which is a clue that it is a toolkit, not a conversion suite

Verdict. Start here if you have never customised checkout. Most Plus merchants outgrow it the first time they want to lift AOV rather than collect a field.

Verdict. A strong generalist. Compare its block list against yours line by line; the overlap with Checkout Ninja is large, the difference is Plus-only depth versus multi-plan breadth.

Verdict. Shortlist it if hiding or reordering payment methods is your main job. Compare its rules engine with Checkout Rules before deciding.

Best for: Stores that mostly need badges, gifting and validation.

Strengths

Limits

  • Narrower scope than a full suite; no shipping protection or review blocks on the listing
  • The name is easily confused with Shopify's own Checkout Blocks

Verdict. A focused app for a focused need. If badges plus gifting is all you want, it is enough. If your list is longer, you will end up stacking apps.

Does it run on Checkout Extensibility?

Every app on this list does. Anything still promising checkout.liquid edits is a red flag; that path closed for Plus in 2024 and 2025.

Which plans does it support?

Customising the checkout pages themselves (information, shipping, payment) needs Shopify Plus. Apps that work on all plans are, for the checkout pages, working on Plus.

Blocks or a builder?

Blocks you drag into Shopify's own checkout editor stay upgrade-safe. A separate visual builder is one more thing to learn and one more thing that can drift from Shopify's editor.

Rules, not just content

The difference between a good checkout and a great one is showing the right block to the right cart. Look for cart-based conditions, customer tags and geography, not just on/off.

Flat rate or per order?

Per-order pricing punishes your best months. Prefer flat monthly billing, especially if Black Friday is a real event for you.

  • Do I need Shopify Plus?

    To customise the information, shipping and payment pages, yes. Apps can add content to the thank-you and order-status pages on every plan, which is why some checkout apps advertise support for all plans.

  • Can I run more than one checkout app at once?

    Yes. Checkout UI extensions from different apps coexist in the same checkout. The practical problems are styling collisions, two vendors to call when something breaks, and two bills. Most merchants consolidate once a suite covers their list.
