Shopify checkout trust badges, where buyers decide.

The customer reached checkout — they almost trust you. Trust & Social Proof blocks close the gap: badges, payment icons, live reviews, and shipping protection. The smallest investment with the largest measurable lift.

01 · Why it matters

What this category really does for you.

Trust is the friction that survives every other optimisation. You can polish the form, sharpen the copy, animate the pay button — and still lose carts because the buyer doesn't quite believe you. Trust & Social Proof blocks answer the three questions every first-time buyer carries in their head: will this ship, can I return it, is my card safe? Surface those answers at the pay step, in plain language, with the right visual weight — and conversion lifts.

How to

How to add trust badges to Shopify checkout.

  1. 01 Step

    Open the checkout editor

In Shopify admin go to Settings, then Checkout, and click Customize next to your checkout configuration.

  2. 02 Step

    Add a Trust Badge block

Use Add block (or the Apps sidebar) and pick Trust Badge, or Trust Badges (Horizontal) for a single compact row on mobile.

  3. 03 Step

Place it above the pay button

Drag it to just above the payment section or the Complete order button. That is where first-time buyers hesitate.

  4. 04 Step

    Write three promises

One for returns, one for delivery, one for security. Specific beats vague: "30-day returns" beats "Satisfaction guaranteed".

  5. 05 Step

    Add proof underneath

A Payment Icon row reads your enabled methods from Shopify Payments. Add TrustPilot, Review Card or a Testimonial if you have strong reviews.

  6. 06 Step

Save and test on a phone

Place a test order and check the layout on mobile, where most checkouts happen and vertical space is tight.

03 · When to use

Three patterns that work.

01

Cold traffic, first-time buyers

If most of your conversions are first-time visitors, trust signals are non-negotiable. Trust Badge + Payment Icon do most of the lifting.

02

High-AOV stores

Spending $200+? Buyers need stronger reassurance. Pair Trust Badge with a curated Testimonial — a named human endorsement beats anonymous star counts at premium prices.

03

International routes

Cross-border buyers ask different questions. TrustPilot (high recognition in UK/EU) plus Shipping Protection (addresses lost-in-transit fear) work together.

Guide

Trust badges and social proof at Shopify checkout.

What Shopify's checkout shows on its own

Shopify's checkout already carries the padlock, the secure payment form and the wallet buttons. What it does not have is a place for your promises: your returns window, your delivery time, your reviews. The checkout editor controls branding (logo, colours, fonts) but has no badge block, so on Shopify Plus trust content comes from an app block. On other plans, the only native option is the logo image, which is why we built the free Checkout Logo Maker.

Why the checkout, not the footer

A badge in the theme footer is seen by people browsing. A badge above the pay button is seen by people deciding. First-time buyers carry three silent questions into checkout: will this ship, can I return it, is my card safe. Answering them next to the button they are about to press is the whole job, and it is why Trust Badge is the most-installed block on Checkout Ninja.

The eight blocks in this category

Trust Badge is a vertical card with an icon, title and one-line explanation per promise. Trust Badges (Horizontal) is the compact single-row version. Payment Icon shows your accepted methods, pulled live from Shopify Payments. TrustPilot shows your live score and recent reviews through the official API. Review Card shows reviews under a Google, Trustpilot, Yotpo, Judge.me or Reviews.io header. Reviews Gallery lays reviews out in 13 arrangements. Testimonial shows one quote you choose. Shipping Protection adds an optional protection fee for lost, stolen or damaged parcels.

Choosing badges that actually help

Three badges, not eight: every extra badge dilutes the others. Write each as a promise a customer could hold you to, and only claim certifications you really hold. Shoppers recognise fake security seals, and they lower trust rather than raise it. Keep icons monochrome or two-colour so they read as information, not ads.

Reviews at checkout, done honestly

TrustPilot refreshes every six hours and surfaces a representative sample, in line with Trustpilot's display guidelines. Review Card and Testimonial are curated, so you choose exactly what shows, which suits a tight space. Always get written permission before using a customer's name, photo or quote.

Ask support
  • How many trust blocks should I use?

Two to three. Trust Badge (the vertical or horizontal version) is the foundation. Add Payment Icon for legitimacy and one of TrustPilot / Testimonial for social proof. More than three crowds the page.

  • Where on the checkout should trust blocks live?

Above the pay button — that's the hesitation moment. The Trust Badge does its job 50px above the “Complete order” button.

  • Are these blocks free?

Checkout Ninja has two paid plans, Advanced ($49/mo) and Deluxe ($99/mo), and every block in this category is available on the 3-day free trial. The pricing page shows which blocks each plan includes.

  • Can I add trust badges to Shopify checkout without Shopify Plus?

Not as a block. Shopify only lets apps add content to the information, shipping and payment steps on the Plus plan. On other plans you can add a trust line to the checkout logo image itself, which our free Checkout Logo Maker is built for.

  • Can I show different badges to different customers?

Yes. Every block works with Conditional Visibility, so you can show a returns badge only to first-time customers, a customs badge only on international carts, or a warranty badge only when the cart contains a certain product.

  • Can I use my own badge icons?

Yes. Trust Badge includes an icon library and also accepts uploaded SVGs, which keep their original colours or recolour to your brand.
