Block not showing in checkout
In short
Most often the block is set to Draft, or it was never placed and saved in Shopify's checkout editor. Check that Status is Active, that a Custom Block app block has this exact Block ID, and that the checkout editor was saved. If it still doesn't show, check its visibility conditions and the block types' own required settings.
✓ Applies to
- Advanced and Deluxe plans
- Blocks placed with the Custom Block app block
✕ Doesn't apply to
- Checkout rules that don't apply. See the rules troubleshooting page
- The thank-you and order status pages
Work through these causes in order. They’re sorted from most to least common.
The block is set to Draft
Only Active blocks render. A Draft block renders nothing, even when it’s placed in the checkout editor.
Check: open the block in Blocks and look at Status in the right-hand column.
Fix: set Status to Active and click Save. Reload the checkout.
The block isn’t placed, or the checkout editor wasn’t saved
Saving a block in Checkout Ninja doesn’t add it to checkout. It has to be placed with the Custom Block app block in Shopify’s checkout editor.
Check: click Open Checkout Editor under Block Details. Look for a Custom Block app block in the position you expect, and check you’re editing the checkout your store actually uses.
Fix: click Add app block, choose Custom Block, paste the Block ID into Block ID, and click Save in the checkout editor. Step-by-step.
The setup guide’s Mark as done is a reminder you tick yourself. It doesn’t mean the block is placed.
The Block ID is wrong or empty
The Custom Block loads the block whose ID is in its Block ID setting. An empty setting shows Block not found in the editor. A mistyped ID, an ID with spaces, or the ID of a deleted block renders nothing at all.
Check: compare the ID in the checkout editor with the one under Block Details in Checkout Ninja.
Fix: copy the ID again with the copy button, paste it with no spaces, and save the checkout editor. If you deleted and recreated the block, it has a new ID.
The visibility conditions don’t match
With Enable conditional block visibility on, the block shows only when at least one of its conditions matches.
Check: open the block’s Block Visibility card. For each condition, ask whether your test checkout meets it. Common misses:
- An operator left on ”-”. That condition never matches.
- An address condition, like Shipping Country, before the buyer has entered an address.
- Text conditions with different capitals. Text matching is case-sensitive.
- A condition on a list, like Discount Code, when no discount is applied. It can’t match with nothing to compare.
Fix: correct the condition, or turn Enable conditional block visibility off to confirm the block shows without it. Every condition and operator.
A block type inside the block is Inactive or empty
Each block type in the builder has its own Active / Inactive badge. Inactive block types don’t render. Many block types also hide themselves when a required setting is empty.
Check: open the block and look at each block type’s badge and settings.
Fix: set the block type back to Active with its visibility toggle, and fill in its required settings. Examples of block types that hide themselves:
| Block type | Hides when |
|---|---|
| Shipping Protection | No Protection Product is selected, or the product can’t be sold |
| Step Indicator | Checkout has fewer than two steps, for example a one-page checkout |
| Shipping Progress Bar | No free shipping threshold is set |
| Payment Icon | No icons are selected |
| Image | No image source is set |
| Upsell blocks | There’s no product to show |
No active plan, or the trial has ended
Checkout Ninja needs an active plan or free trial. Without one, the app locks features and shows Feature Upgrade Required, so you can’t finish setting up the block.
Check: look for a trial banner such as “Your trial has ended”, or open Billing.
Fix: choose a plan from Billing.
The block type isn’t in your plan
Some block types are only in certain plans. On other plans their settings are locked behind Feature Upgrade Required, so they can’t be configured.
Check: open the block type. If you see Feature Upgrade Required, it’s gated.
Fix: upgrade from Billing, or use a block type your plan includes. Plans and features. Fixing plan locks.
The store isn’t on Shopify Plus
Shopify only lets checkout apps render in the information, shipping and payment steps on Shopify Plus. This is a Shopify rule for every checkout app.
Check: your Shopify plan, under Settings > Plan in your Shopify admin.
Fix: test on a development store, or upgrade to Shopify Plus to use checkout blocks live.
The position isn’t shown in this checkout
The two delivery address positions only render when checkout shows a delivery address form. With local pickup, or a cart that doesn’t need shipping, they don’t appear.
Check: which position the Custom Block is in. Block placements.
Fix: move the block to the checkout body or after the header if every buyer needs to see it.
Frequently asked
The app says Active. Why isn't it in my checkout? +
Active only means the block is ready to render. It still has to be placed with a Custom Block app block in Shopify's checkout editor, and the editor has to be saved.
Can Checkout Ninja tell me whether my block is placed? +
No. The app can't see your checkout editor layout. Check the checkout editor, or open a real checkout.
How long do changes take to show? +
The block is loaded when checkout opens. Save in Checkout Ninja, then reload the checkout page.
My block shows for some buyers and not others. Is that a bug? +
Usually it's the visibility conditions doing their job. A block with conditions shows only when at least one condition matches the buyer's cart, address or payment.
